2003-11-16 - 5:46 a.m. Well! Winter decided to show up in a big way. We had high winds and blowing snow starting on Wednesday night. Thursday a.m., I could not get the back door open, as the drifts were up over the door handle (!). I did get to break out the snowblower and cleaned the drive and area in front of the garage. My goal for the winter is to have it take less time to plow than it does for the tractor to warm up. How did I do for my first attempt? Tractor warm up: 7:00-9:30 on the glow plugs and 9:30-10:00 idling. Total: 3 hours. Actual plowing: 2-1/2 hours... except I broke a shear pin when I picked up a rock, so add on another hour of time for my dear neighbor, Tom, to come up and help me figure out how to replace the dern thing (Well, okay 10 minutes to do that, and 50 minutes of shooting the breeze with him). Not too shabby for a first attempt, however. Pictures are in the camera for those of you living in slightly warmer southern climates. I received a big bag of GORGEOUS black merino roving back from Zellinger's mill in Michigan. This was from a lovely fleece from a merino named "Delight" at Red Bud Wool Farm. Of course, I just finished plying up some sock yarn, so I'm filling a couple of bobbins with the merino, just to try it out. I'm still working on my Yule stocking for the swap. I turned the heel yesterday and now have to decide what I want to do with the foot. Decisions - decisions. This week, I'm off to RI to visit with DH. I'm going to try to take the dog for her first big "road trip" and we'll see how she does. Wish me luck!
