2003-09-08 - 4:50 p.m.

This morning I got up early and took the dog for a walk just after dawn, since I had to drive down to Dartmouth for an appointment at 9:00. The sunrise was amazing - pastel pinks, salmons and purples. It looked like someplace the hobbits would live - there was mist sitting in all the small valleys as we walked along the road that dissipated as we went along. Nice and cool, too, for the walk, about 48 degrees here this morning.

I decided I would tackle "re"learning to spin cotton this afternoon. I tried to teach myself once, but didn't have a lot of success. I had ordered 5 bucks' worth of a tricolor blend - white, green and khaki - all natural colors (not dyed), which is cool. It's coming along okay this time, although I'm used to the faster pace of spinning wool and this is very very slow in comparison. I don't think I'll ever enjoy cotton as much for that reason - not as much instant gratification - but I needed to get started on the cotton samples I have to spin up for my Certificate of Excellence in handspinning, so I figured I might as well start now.

Otherwise, a quiet afternoon with the cat and dog, spinning and listening to a great program off the Canadian Public Radio.

That's all for now. Off to take the dog for her evening walk past the old graveyard and to visit the stream.

Blessings.
